Third ranked Northwest Missouri State lost their first game 44-27 to eighth ranked Abilene Christian.

"So much of the preseason is based on the previous year, we don't put any stock in preseason rankings, or even our regular season rankings. We just keep playing and try to win your conference, if you do that then you are going to get an opportunity to be in the playoffs," Mel Tjeerdsma, head coach of NWMS, said last week before the game.

Ser-NES-ski.

The name isn't that hard to say, but it may take a while for fans to pronounce Mules' quarterback Eric Czerniewski's name if they're seeing it for the first time.

Czerniewski may have people tongue-tied, but during this past Thursday's lightning-delayed showdown with Minnesota State-Mankato, he made sure people knew his name by the end of the night.

Florida International hasn't had a winning season since its inception in 2002. In six years, the Golden Panthers have only won 16 games, three on the road.

"[The Golden Panthers] played hard and played with good effort last year," Hawkeye head coach Kirk Ferentz said. "I think they're just a better team physically now than they were."

The Bob Devaney Sports Center has the Red Zone.

Now the NU Coliseum has a student section of its own.

While the newly relocated seating arrangement in section 10 - above the pep band - remains nameless, the hope is to bring in more students and take the energy of the NU Coliseum to a whole new level on game days.

It's been a while for Cody Glenn.

The senior linebacker hadn't received significant playing time with the Nebraska football team since his sophomore year, when he was known as a bruising running back with plenty of speed.

The following years led to Glenn being overshadowed by senior back Marlon Lucky, former Cornhusker Kenny Wilson and even sophomore I-backs Quentin Castille and Roy Helu Jr.

The Coyotes will take on the fifth-ranked Northern Iowa Panthers Saturday, a far cry from last week's NAIA opponent St. Ambrose. It will be the Coyotes' first test as a D-I program, but it won't be the first time they've tussled with a powerful D-I Football Championship Subdivision program.
