$70,000 dry tailgate proposal provokes 'unhealthy debate' in UISG

The first UI Student Government Senate meeting of the school year began with a battle over a costly new initiative.



UISG President Maison Bleam asked the senators for $70,000 to fund an alcohol-free tailgate. The majority of the money would come from the student activity fee.

Chris Frederick didn't plan to pursue politics, but once he became involved at Minnesota State, his plans changed.

Frederick served as the Minnesota State Student Association president last year and graduated in the spring. Now he's ready to continue his presence in the Mankato community.

UI Professor William Reisinger remembers former colleague Arthur Miller as "one of the most distinguished scholars" in political science and credits him for enhancing the field at the UI.



"Since Miller joined the UI Department of Political Science in 1985, he has strengthened the department's reputation in the discipline, and its faculty members and students have benefited from his expertise in political psychology and survey methods," Reisinger said in an e-mail.
