Faculty and staff who are married to each other and those with children could stand to lose some benefit funding and single parents could receive more under a proposed policy change that sparked heated debate Wednesday.



At the UI Staff Council meeting, Rick Borchard, a co-chairman of the Fund Retirement and Insurance Charter, presented proposed changes in how UI employees will receive their health, dental, life, and retirement insurance. Nearly 150 people were in attendance, and many tempers flared.

A permit issued by the Kansas Department of Transportation on Tuesday gives the go ahead for the 32nd Street Alignment of the South Lawrence Trafficway. If constructed, the road will pave through a 56-acre patch of the Baker Wetlands, but Douglas County attorney Bob Eye plans to pounce on KDOT and the Federal Highway Administration with a lawsuit before that happens.

Though students have almost unlimited access to most buildings on campus, one building is seldom toured by students.

The home of President Jon Wefald and his family is one of few campus buildings where permission is necessary to enter. Wefald and his wife Ruth Ann have lived on K-State's campus in the President's house for 21 years.

After receiving the news that her hometown had taken a direct tornado hit, Baker University sophomore Kaley McKee immediately drove to Greensburg on the night of May 4.
